Bridging Worlds, Culture, Care, and Connection: Transracial Fostering and Adoption of African-American Children

THURSDAY, APRIL 9 | 3:45 PM - 4:45 PM
Premadonna Braddick will co-present Workshop 13 on Thursday, April 9, from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Her session, “Bridging Worlds, Culture, Care, and Connection: Transracial Fostering and Adoption of African-American Children,” will be presented alongside Derrick Braddick, LPC.

This workshop explores the complex dynamics of transracial fostering and adoption, with a focused lens on African-American children placed in families of different racial and cultural backgrounds. Participants will engage with the historical, psychological, and social realities that shape these experiences. We will examine how race, identity, and culture intersect in the lives of transracially adopted children—and what that means for foster and adoptive parents committed to raising them with dignity, awareness, and authenticity. This session will challenge participants to think critically and compassionately about what it means to parent across racial lines in a society shaped by structural inequality.
